Freedom Crusade

Initially, this was a thought experiment to see what was possible using the best combinations of powers that I could think of.  I thought that these figures should be fleshed out and formed into a team, so I chose 800 points as my team total and set about making the ultimate Heroclix team… Freedom Crusade!

For a team ability, I wanted something cheap and effective.  But I also wanted it to help force them to work as a team, so I chose the Defender ability.  Being able to share defenses can make a major difference in a battle, the problem for the Defenders and JSA being a lack of members.  But here we have the whole roster, and while many of them start with a 16 defense, there is an 18 in the mix and as figures get hurt defenses won’t necessarily go down.

The leader of the group, she is a real damage dealer.  Charging in, Willpower, Blades, and Flurry make a potent scrapper in any fight.  Wolverine, eat your heart out.  As an optimized figure goes, this one was a necessity.  I play this figure in City of Heroes as Lady Lion (on Liberty).

Every group needs a bruiser, and Titan does that in spades.  Enough charge to get in and more flurry to compound the damage.  But CCE is a good option to add even more damage to a single hit.  Some Quake at the end if he gets in trouble, and Outwit to show he is better than Superman.  One tough cookie.  I play this figure in  City of Heroes as Titan Man (on Liberty).

The speedster of the group, Ion can deal some damage, hitting for 5 with a heavy object.  Willpower just adds to the opponent’s misery since he can do the same thing the following turn without repercussion.  His only weakness is his lack of damage reducers, but with a defense that won’t quite, he’ll be hard to hit.

Every team needs a sorcerer and Dr. Mobius fills that role for Freedom Crusade.  Doing 3 damage from a range of 10 that ignores damage reducers is good, but add running shot and probability control, and you have a real winner.  Throw in a little outwit, mind control, barrier, and some dual incapacitate and this figure is good to his last click.  The support at the end is just icing.

Ranged damage from stealth… gotta love it.  Throw in some will power and your really putting some hurt down.  Some Leap/Climb to get away and some dual incapacitate to slow down what is left of the opposition.  This archer has it all over Hawkeye and Green Arrow.

What team can survive without some TK?  Aerial puts her atmospheric talents to work solidifying air into barriers, pushing people around with wind, even some air punches from long range.  The primary outwiter of the group, she is no slouch and after outwit she can really help your ranged guys make those hits hurt even more.  This support figure rounds out the team with a big exclamation point.
